Hemoglobin is a protein molecule in red blood cell which carries blood from the lungs to the body’s tissues and returns the carbon dioxide from the tissues back to the lungs. Hemoglobin is generally measured from a blood sample as a complete blood count CBC. The normal Hemoglobin level depends on the age, gender, in newborns and adolescence. A blood test will tell you how much level of hemoglobin is in your blood. The normal range of Hemoglobin level in men is 13.5 to 17.5 per grams per deciliter and for women it is 12.0 to 15.5 grams per deciliter.
Causes for Low Hemoglobin
If your Hemoglobin level is below normal you have anemia. The causes of anemia may be due to Iron, Vitamin B12 and Folate deficiency. Excess blood loss due to injury, surgery, stomach ulcers, bleeding and cancer is also the reason of low level Hemoglobin. Kidney failure, Liver disease and Thalassemia which is a genetic disorder causes low levels of hemoglobin and red blood cells.
How to Increase Hemoglobin
It is always advisable to increase Hemoglobin naturally. There are several minerals and vitamins that can increase hemoglobin levels. The most important ones are iron, vitamin B6, B9 (folic acid), B12 and vitamin C which is very important for the absorption of enhancing of iron.
