Onychomycosis Symptoms

Symptoms are rare and often late.

The nails most often affected are those of the toes, seven to ten times more often affected than the fingernails of the hand, the big toe being in favor with this disease.

Fungi:

  • Dermatophytes in most cases and especially in humans;
  • Yeasts, that is to say, candida , in 10-15% of cases, especially in women
  • Mold in 3% of cases.

The lesions are multiple with the nail, in particular, changes of color, peeling, or even a complete destruction of the nail. There may, moreover, skin lesions around the nail.

The discomfort and pain are infrequent, paradoxically, to pain that can cause injury to a nail. This is one reason why the diagnosis is made late with, usually, a discovery of the lesion by a podiatrist or chiropodist.

It may be complicated by bacterial infections in diabetics, those undergoing chemotherapy or immunosuppressive sub

Onychomycosis Diagnosis

The diagnosis is that it requires mycological examination conducted by sampling at the level of the nail.

This review will identify the fungus and eliminate other diagnoses such as psoriasis, tumor, traumatic damage, or even a fungal infection not.

Onychomycosis Treatment

The treatment will be primarily local after confirmation of the results of mycological examination.
