Skin Infection Definition

The two main pilosebaceous skin infections are boils and carbunclesThe boil is acute inflammation of the deep pilosebaceous unit. Anthrax is also an inflammatory tumor of the skin but affects several neighboring hair follicles.

The boil is manifested by the occurrence of an inflammatory nodule 1 to 2 cm in diameter, infiltrated, with erythema, heat, tenderness and pain, whose top is surmounted by a pustule centered by a hair. Pustule that breaks a few days later eliminating pus and yellowish training called gangrenous slough which corresponds to the removal of the wall of the sebaceous follicle. It spontaneously disappears, giving way to an ulcer that heals in 10 days leaving a scar often final. The areas most commonly affected areas of skin are the fattest: back, buttocks, waist, nasolabial folds.

Anthrax infection is deep and confluent of several pilosebaceous follicles neighborhood leading to the formation of an inflammatory, which then festers in the skin.

Skin Infection Causes

Our organization hosts many germs, including staphylococcus aureus, which occurs most often in the nose, ear canals, scalp and navel.

From these homes, a cutaneous dissemination can occur and cause an infection of the pilosebaceous unit. This is a hair and sebaceous gland that accompanies it. The causative organism enters the hole hair and enhances all the pilosebaceous unit causing inflammation, suppuration and then, finally, necrosis.

Predisposing factors should be investigated: poor hygiene, friction and wearing tight clothing, seborrhea very abundant, fertile soil, such as diabetes, immunosuppression or alcoholism.

Skin Infection Risk Factor

Boils are often located in areas where the skin is oilier: back, buttocks, but they can occur wherever there are sebaceous glands producing sebum.

The malignant staphylococcal infection of the face is the complication of a boil on the central part of the face which has often been manipulated. We then see a closet very purple, hot, painful, hard and covered with scabs, located in the middle of the face between the nose and the mouth corners. High fever and, if untreated, impaired general condition may appear.

Hospitalization is recommended in emergency blood culture should be performed, then a local levy to identify the toxicity of Staphylococcus; an antibiotic will also be performed before starting antibiotics.

Skin Infection Treatment

In the simple form of the boil isolated, treatment should be local. In case of recurrent boils, anthrax, particular location or particular field, a general treatment is necessary. Hygiene and disinfection are required in all cases.

Skin Infection Preventive

It is necessary to apply very strict hygiene rules.Measures of general hygiene will be taken regardless of the type of boil:

  • First, frequent handwashing and careful,
  • Accompanied by a careful brushing of nails that will always be cut short.
  • This wash is also applied to the inner circle, and especially the nursing staff when necessary.
  • Then the machine must remain individual and must be changed regularly

Breach of the folds of the buttocks or, in cases of furunculosis seat, avoid wearing tight clothing (jeans). Hygiene care of the patient and carers will be more stringent in case of immunosuppression known. In case of furunculosis, local antiseptic treatment must be part of daily hygiene and disinfection sites carry germs: nose, ears, navel, scars of boils.

Soiled dressings should be packed before being discarded. An unknown or poorly controlled diabetes should be corrected. A lifestyle food will be introduced in case of unbalanced diet, malnutrition or alcoholism.
